It is so pretty and quaint. It’s quiet too, but in walking distance to most everything! The host is incredible! I was very impressed.

We had quite a busy schedule. We did make time to visit Plum Island and enjoyed a quick tour of the lovely town of Newburyport, including a visit to the Threadneedle Gallery of fine art. The only thing we would change for our next trip, would be to have more time to tour this beautiful town.

Just the right amount of shops and good restaurants--the city did a fantastic job of 'restoring' Newburyport in the '60s and it is just charming. Of course the port/waterfront itself is the star. I could never get enough of just sitting and enjoying that view. The number of beautiful historic houses is astonishing. I would go back in a heartbeat.

What I like the most is that it didn't look like a motel at all look like a home in the queen Suite that I had was actually like a home to me I wish I could have stayed longer I was actually hoping that there would be a tub to take a bubble bath. The shower was a bit small I love, my room had a fireplace also they living room had a pull out bed in the couch that was great also the location of the Inn was near restaurants and stores it was awesome. I had a great night at the paddle inn which was only a 2-minute walk around the corner

The restaurant situation sucked.
The restaurant situation sucked. We went out for dinner at 5 thinking we were early enough to get in. Because of covid19 most restaurants had an hour or more wait already! No bars were open so an after dinner drink is out of the question.

Newburyport is a great combination of modern and historical, and my favorite birdwatching location (Plum Island) is only a 5-minute drive away. The town is easily walkable, and there's lots of public parking.
We ate at a great restaurant - The Grog - on Middle St. Relatively inexpensive and a fine menu.

The shopping is great. Also the restaurants are great.
The shopping is great. Also the restaurants are great. Plenty of both. The best think I like about it is you walk everywhere. You come in and park the car at the Inn and walk everywhere. Great location.
We were able to experience a beautiful breakfast each morning, it was yummy and fun each time. The folks at the Garrison Inn were spectacular. Warm and friendly and were able to direct us to places to see and eat while were we in Newburyport. It was a great step out from 20/20. Thank You so much.
I loved the history of the inn and the ambiance of the hotel and room. We stayed in the Loft.
Jody and Stu added to our fabulous time.
The breakfast was exceptional - Kim made a terrific egg dish both of the mornings we were there. Loved the cozy living room with the fireplace. The cupola on the 4th floor was such an added treat - we watched the sunset with a bottle of wine. Room was large with very comfortable beds. Nice closet and dresser too. Location was great - easy access to the downtown restaurants and shops. Kim was the nicest innkeeper we've had!!
The staff were wonderful, especially the general manager. When I realized the stairs were very steep, she was able to move us to a room on the first floor. Breakfast was described as "continental" but it was waaay more than that. The room was super comfortable especially the bed. I can't say enough great things about this place and the town of Newburyport is so quaint and walkable. Definitely stay here if you get the chance.
A very charming inn! The breakfast was very good and cooked fresh every morning. I really enjoyed the coffee that was available throughout the day. The room was cozy and very clean, and the bed was comfortable! I also appreciated the on-site parking. The customer service was superb! Kenzie was very professional and welcoming. Very central location in Newburyport. Would definitely recommend!
First and foremost, the architecture of this magnificent building is stunning. The breakfast was excellent, and the staff was very accommodating and helpful. Parking was easy and access to downtown so comfortable. We happened to be in Newburyport during an unusual heat wave (over 100 F for 3 days). Fortunately, the hotel was air-conditioned and very comfortable.
Simple, clean and historic. Great location to get to anywhere in Newburyport or Plum Island. Loved running to the beach and on the water/ rail trail loop. Kitchen was very functional, although we mostly just used it for coffee in the morning, we easily could have made more involved meals. The sitting area was a nice space and the bedrooms were quiet and clean.
I had a very nice stay with my family at the hotel. Each room was decorated delicately. The best breakfast I had during the entire trip was at this hotel. The workers at front desk were really kind and helpful. Besides, I want to thank Joady for her help. My son forgot his AirPods at the hotel room and she helped me to ship them back to my house. Thanks!
We were attending the CAPA event through out cape Anne . Every town south of Newburyport was either sold out or offensively priced. We were searching for a 4 night accommodation. The Essex came up on a 2 night stay that still fit our needs and priced half of what others were asking. Best of all, clean, quiet, best nights sleep ever !🤗
Excellent location on the beach to enjoy the sun rise from your room. Walking distance to town. Modern Decor. The breakfast bag far exceeded our expectations. Locally prepared gourmet offerings. Friendly and attentive staff. Privacy curtains were available on the porch to create space from the neighboring guests. Bikes!
Wonderful B&B, in a wonderful town to visit (Newburyport, MA). The staff was very nice, and the breakfast each morning delicious. Perfect location, one block from the main dining and shopping street in town.
Breakfast was small but tasty! This hotel has lots of character and old charm, but rooms are clean and modern! I thought I wanted to be closer to the beach, but being in town definately had it's perks.
Location is great for walking around shops and restaurants and the waterfront. Room is perfectly decorated, up to date and clean. Does not feel like a hotel room. A good selection of breakfast foods.
Perfect location in downtown Newburyport with easy access to restaurants and pubs. Comfortable rooms in 3 nice houses located in a quiet street. Helpful staff.
