The only positive thing about this hotel was the location. Should’ve stayed at the Intercontinental instead. Better experience for the same price.

Room was comfortable but could do with some draws/additional clothes storage. There were a couple of shelves and hanging space. Not really enough for a one week stay. Room cleaning was hit and miss, some days they didn't arrive until late afternoon when we were having a siesta so some days we told them not to bother. No drama though. We were on the 6th floor with a sea view. The road is a little noisy but worth it for the view. Could sit there all day watching the world go by. Once the patio doors were closed you couldn't hear the road. Location was good for the ferry to Valletta. Bus stop right outside the hotel which we used a few times. Easy to get around. Breakfast was good, busy but always managed to get a clean table. Staff lovely.

The owner is an artist so it's a beautifully decorated house. And at $50 in high season for a room with a balcony what an amazing value. Including a simple breakfast which was just fine. It's not in the city center but it's only one block from a bus that goes directly to the city center and comes every few minutes.

We liked the fact that Paola is a quiet and friendly neighbourhood, away from the main tourist traps. There are excellent bus connections to all over the island.
On the downside, Paola has a limited selection of restaurants that are open in the evening.

When you first look you might think that Paola is a bit off the beaten track for tourists, but do not be fooled.
Paola is a lovely city in its own right, and not being touristy is remarkably cheap.
Then of course there is the amazing Maltese buses. 20 minutes and you are in Valletta, or 20 mins in the other direction you are in Birzebugga, a great seaside town with a lovely beach.
