Back-dropped by breathtaking Cretan mountains, the family-run Faragi enjoys a unique location, at the peaceful seaside village of Agia Roumeli, at the end of the famous Samaria Gorge.

Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food...
Nice, quiet village with friendly people and good food facilities. Ideal vacation place with small children. Sea, walking part of Samaria Gorge (from Agia Roumeli to Samaria village and back is durable with children, just take something to eat and drink with you - there are no selling points there). You can also take a walk to Agios Pavlos or (if not afraid of climbing) take a route to the medieval castle ruines ( take less steap route, partly going through a forest - less dangerous and not so hot).
During long stay we tried more than 5 restaurants and liked Faragi and Paralia the most: good meals, friendly owners; we felt almost at home at those places.

Agia Roumeli is a small village, which mainly accommodates those who visit the Samaria Gorge. Access is either by foot from the gorge or by boat from other parts of Sfakia region.
It is definitely recommended to stay in Agia Roumeli after visiting the Gorge, as it is a quite demanding hike and some time to rest and relax is much needed.
Lots of nice restaurants and cafes to choose from. People are warm and welcoming, and the Agia Roumeli beach is also lovely.

In May, after ferries leave, a very sleepy, romantic place to be in. Next day, while travellers from Samaria arrive, a bit crowdy village :-) The atmosphere is very nice, great to experience, a great spot to stay after your Samaria walk and maybe even a bit longer!

Agia Roumeli offers activities for both sea and mountain lovers, and good, Cretan food based on local products. It should thus be considered as a destination on its own and not just a transfer area after exiting the Samaria Gorge.

Wonderful town, away from the big crowds.
Wonderful town, away from the big crowds. Crystal clear blue waters with great swimming and snorkelling possibilities. 2-3 decent restaurants, which in combination with having a small supermarket and our own kitchen was ideal for up to a week.
The town is crowded only for a few hours per day when hikers come down from the gorge. Me and my partner immediately felt at home and decided to stay one more night than planned. A lovely little gem that I’d love to visit again.

The beach has black sand, so is too hot to sit on or walk on...
The beach has black sand, so is too hot to sit on or walk on, and the water is not always clean, depending on the wind direction. Agia Roumeli serves more as an exit or entrance point to Samaria Gorge, which means that most tourists are "one-time" visitors. So related services are overpriced and of poor quality.
Which is a pity, because it is a very nice village, that could be worth staying a couple more days.
Anna and Pavlo (hope that’s written correctly) were perfect hosts. Since Samaria and the hiking trails were closed we used the quite time to relax at Agia Roumeli. From the hotel you have direct access to the beach (with deck chairs, not included) and can enjoy drinks and food from the hotel owned beach bar. This is also the place you get the breakfast, which is, thanks to Anna, the best we had during our holidays in Greece. Our room had a nice balcony with sea view and was very tidy. All in all we had a very pleasant stay!
Possibly the only truly family tavern in Agia Roumeli. The best part - they got rooms!
I enjoyed a delicious meal, and a sensory experience that I dreamed of for years. The silence and calmness of the evening complemented the aromas of the fresh dishes, served near the beach, at one of their few tables, the view from the room terrace. The attention and discretion of the restaurant owner, Mr. Nectarios, who offered me as a gift two small bottles - one with olive oil and one with brandy. Thank you very much!
the location and facilities! We walked through the Gorge and wanted to spend the night in Agio Roumelli. the later checkout time was great as we were tired the next morning. We were allowed to take towels to the beach after checkout and use the restroom in the hotel to get ready for the ferry at 5:30. The location was superb to spend a day in Agio Roumelli. I don't know why more people don't opt to stay the night.
The bed is very comfortable, I’ve never seen such a clean hotel, and the staff is very accommodating. Everything was so relaxed, and the only bad thing I have to say is why no one told me that I should come for longer ;) We also had dinner and breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant and it was very fresh and delicious, there’s really no reason to go anywhere else. Also, the view from the rooms is simply priceless!
I booked this last minute after a day of hiking to reach Agia Roumeli. We had intended to camp but decided that a room would be a nice upgrade. I had no trouble booking and when we arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to a nice room. Nektarios the owner is a very nice man and the rest of his staff were good too. I'd happily stay here again in the future.
clean & comfortable & well equipped apartment. the bed is super amazing comfortable !
Athina is super amazing kind & generous & hospitable host.
good location in Agia Roumeli - very close to the beach ( fabulous deep sea swimming) and also close to the beginning of the Gorge walk but also away from the sometimes more busy , very centre of the village .
The room was very clean and comfortable. We had a big balcony and a nice and clean bathroom. Tap water is fantastic quality. The owner was very helpful and friendly. She let us leave some of our luggage at the house after checking out. House is located in a small side street, very quiet at night. Would definitely stay there again when in Agia Roumeli.
Right in front of the beach and in the very city center, nearby the cafes and restaurants. We stayed here after the long hike of Samaria Gorge and was everything that we needed for resting and recovering. The room had a view of the mountains and the very dramatic landscape. The owner was very helpful and friendly and gave us many precious tips.
We spent a night a Tarra after the Samaria Gorge treck. which was a great idea. We had Dinner with local food at Tarra on the beautiful terrace with a great view. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet with a small balcony with sea view. Thank you Andreas for the great food and service !
The staff was friendly and the small village of Agia Roumeli is fantastic for a quiet stopover. It is also very convenient that the rooms have a supermarket dowstairs so you can easily buy anything that you may require for your stay.
The hotel is located 50m next to the ferry pear, staff is very friendly and helpful (we could leave our luggage till return from Samaria gorge), the hotel is newly renovated, you should try the food at the restaurant
It was a nice refuge after a long hike in Samaria gorge. We loved the beautiful water views from the balcony, and enjoyed cooling down with the A/C. The owners were extremely welcoming and it was a great value!
very convenient location, a welcome rest after the long walk down the beautiful Samaria Gorge.
Proprietor was great, cheerful, accommodating and an excellent host.
Fantastic sea views from the little balcony. Perfect location in Agia Roumeli. The check in was quick and smooth. The restaurant serves amazing food by the beach.
