Historic Hobart, with its convict past, was often referred to as Australia’s neglected backwater. How times have changed as its temperate climate, quiet lifestyle and fabulous food and markets make it a revitalising tourist destination along the Derwent River in Tasmania.
The city’s significant maritime history begins at Constitution Dock, situated along the waterfront and facing the beautiful harbour. Nearby Battery Point and affluent Sandy Bay feature Georgian and Victorian architecture and the first settler’s cottages in Australia’s 2nd oldest city.
Escape to a memorable view of Hobart town from the snow-covered Mount Wellington or get close up and personal in the city’s quaint streets. Hobart comes alive during the colourful Salamanca Market, held every Saturday morning, where you can bag a bargain or sample mouth-watering produce such as local wines and cheeses.
Cascade Brewery and Cadbury’s Chocolates have tours of these Tasmanian icons or visit Wrest Point Casino, a popular event and entertainment centre.
The annual Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race in December and Tulip Festival in the Royal Botanical Gardens swells the population in this small capital city. Make sure you check Booking.com ahead of time for your colonial cottage, cosy B&B or waterfront apartment.
Hobart is a city full of history and life. Unlike many cities it has kept it's small town feel while having the many of the amenities that you would find in a much larger city.
You don't even need to rent a car to spend time in the city as most places are within walking distance however if you do be careful the streets can be rather confusing.

Hobart is an incredible city for its size, jamb packed with incredible food, beautiful architecture, spectacular markets and harbour. It's a short drive to Huon Valley and the incredible apple orchards.
Mt Wellington is a spectacle and a great location for beautiful photos.
It's a city that should be on your list to visit.

Hobart is a nice city for around one day.
Hobart is a nice city for around one day. I was here cause I had a tour planned departing from Hobart. The city itself is not that exciting so one day is more than enough to see the city centre. Of course, if you want to visit the MONA museum or hike up Mt Wellington you need some more days. My tour guide also said that there are a lot of nice vineyards/wineries in the surrounding area so have a look for that if that is something you like!

I really enjoyed this city but I am more of a small town vibe. Bumi coffee's sambal chilli scrambled eggs was the highlight! Sadly did witness/experienced 3 incidences of potential racism towards Asians though...

Richmond was worth a look at the convict bridge and quirky shops. The old jail was interesting. Salmon ponds were good and lunch of pancakes there was delicious! Russell falls was very pretty. Needed more than a day to see all that Hobart has to offer.

Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit...
Hobart was full of interesting buildings and places to visit, particularly Constitution Dock (Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race) and MONA. It was a good place to take day trips to Bruny Island or Port Arthur and other notable places. The Salamanca Markets is a must. I was surprised at how hilly it is.
the property is exceptional, with features available in most 5 star hotels but without the the price. staff were amazing, beds showers fantastic, Timms and architecture of the hotel are world class. on our last night we had just returned from a huge hike. the wonderful staff gave us bath salts and a bar of local chocolate without us asking. we finished the nice with delicious fresh food, great wines and jazz in the downstairs bar. a must stay when in Hobart.
Excellent location and corner room had windows on three sides with views of Parliament House and the waterfront.
The food in both restaurant and at the pub was varied and delicious. Breakfast was also included in the tariff.
The reception and staff especially Nuri, Yolanda, Brock and Dave were very friendly, courteous and professional as well as very supportive when I was ill.
Highly recommend the hotel for anyone visiting Hobart.
The location with views to kunanyi/Mount Wellington and of the Derwent River were sublime and so close to everything we needed, as was the ferry from Bellerive to Hobart City which was within easy walking distance and adjacent to the Waterfront Hotel - their steaks are delicious! Our host Emily was wonderful and this property is highly recommended.
Our room was clean and comfortable which had all the facilities we required especially washing machine/dryer. Located in Constitution dock region which was superb. The Skybus, from Hobart Airport, drop off point was within a two minute walk to the apartment. Being near all the piers was great and the CBD is only a brief walk away. Value for money.
The location couldn't have been better. An easy walk to all areas of Hobart - waterfront, shopping, parks, restaurants. So convenient to stop in during the day. I arrived on an early flight and was offered an available room for a small upgrade, which I appreciated. Included breakfast was table service and delicious.
Lovely hotel in Hobart CBD in a quiet location with a short 10 minute walk to Hobart Harbour. Rooms were well presented, clean and contained everything I needed. Very comfortable bed too! Reception area contained a bar and restaurant with a nice open fireplace. I would definitely stay in this hotel again!
I loved the history of the property and how the hotel
actively incorporates that history — original wood beams, exposed stone and brick from 200 years ago. Curated local art throughout adds to the unique nature of the hotel. Right on the waterfront, this is definitely the best location in Hobart!
this is the most amazing place that anyone could ever stay. We just love it so much it’s going to be our go to when we go to Hobart now we’re running up on the north west coast of Tasmania
Breakaway to this destination you won’t be sorry we love it. There is not one thing we don’t love about
I had two stays at this hotel, before and after a tour of the island. So, some of this is similar to my other review.
Reservation and desk staff are helpful. The hotel location is good, "next door" to Woolworth's grocery and a short walk to the waterfront for restaurants.
This is a great little apartment hotel in a superb location. The rooms are large, comfortable and well equiped. The staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel is about a 2 minute walk from Salamanca Place (and markets) and the historic Hobart docks. Highly recommended.
The view from our room was spectacular, overlooking the Harbour! Central location within Hobart to easily walk to most restaurants and key attractions. Dinner was good quality with varied options. Cheap parking per night if you are staying at the hotel.
Best boutique hotel we’ve ever stayed in. Well appointed room with spa. Great wifi. Owners Ash and Brock amazingly responsive. Well stocked kitchen and self serve breakfast. Complementary port. Free laundry in the basement. superb location.
The communal kitchen was convenient and very well stocked. The hotel is charming and in a great location for exploring Hobart. We enjoyed wandering the streets of Battery Point enjoying the views and houses. Such amazing value.
Beautiful new fully furnished cottage with plenty of space for the whole family. Large kitchen so we didn’t need to eat out every night. Very friendly owner who welcomed us. Worth the 15 min drive into Hobart and close to MONA.
It was a spacious self contained 2 bedroom apartment with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly and nothing was a bother to them. I would definitely stay again next time I'm in Hobart.
This hotel is a convenient location to Hobart CBD. The hotel is modern and comfortable with a laundry for guests onsite and an economical breakfast available.
